Dr. Sharma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and a York Research Chair in Global Change Biology at York University, Canada. Her research examines the impacts of multiple stressors on lakes. She leads international multidisciplinary teams to understand the effects of climate change on lake ice cover, water temperatures, water quality, and fish communities. You can find more of her work on her website, sharmalab.wordpress.com. She can also be reached at sharma11@yorku.ca
Dr. Bove is an Associate Professor of Research in Marine Sciences at University of the Virgin Islands. His research interests include understanding the impacts of climate change on coastal communities and the long term impacts of climate change on small lakes where as an avid paddler he spends much of his free time. His research career started in Ken’s lab and he has fond memories of visiting some of the lakes in the lake ice study and meeting some of citizen scientist that help make this important project possible. He can be reached at gerald_bove@uri.edu
Dr. Stewart is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Biology, SUNY Buffalo. Ken started the lake ice data collection project in the 1960’s when he had the idea that people who live on the lakeshores notice ice events, but very few people record them. Throughout the decades of collecting these data he began to see the importance of understanding how climate change will impact particular regions. Winter months in Buffalo often found him on frozen lakes on campus where he affectionately earned the nickname the “Ice Man”.
